West Village Nursery School Admissions

Welcome to West Village Nursery School!  Our school is a cooperative nursery school and a unique place for children to grow and learn.  We hope you’ve taken some time to explore our website and learn a little bit about our program.   The following guidelines will help you begin our application process for the 2018-2019 school year.   We look forward to getting to know you and your families soon!

Application for Admission

The application deadline for the 2018-19 admissions season is November 1, 2017. However, we are continuing to accept 2018-19 applications for the 4s class on a rolling basis. Our application is on our website and please feel free to contact admissions@wvns.org with any questions.

The 2018-2019 West Village Nursery School application will be available on Thursday, September 7, 2017.  Please click HERE to access it. The application deadline for the 2018-2019 school year is November 1, 2017.

As a member of ISAAGNY, WVNS follows the required admissions deadlines and policies.

Age Requirements

West Village Nursery School accepts applications for children ages 1.8 – 4.8 by September 1st of the year of entry.

Admissions Process

Our admissions process has 3 or 4 steps: (1) The Application (2) The Lottery (3) Parent Tours & Interviews and (4) Child Visit for 3s and 4s applicants only.

Once an application has been received, along with the non-refundable  $50 application fee, applicants will be put into our lottery.  Although we would love to meet every family who applies to WVNS, we hold a lottery to determine which families continue through our admissions process.  Notification of lottery results will be emailed to applicants no later than November 10, 2017.

If your application has been selected in the lottery,  a parent tour and interview will be scheduled.  Please note these tours are for parents only.  It is a unique opportunity for parents to observe the classrooms in session, learn more about our program and ask questions.

In addition, applicants for the 3s and 4s program will be notified of a separate date for your child to visit the school and spend time with our teachers.  The child visits take place in January and February.  They will take place in the classroom in small groups with the 3s and 4s teachers.  Please do not worry if your child has trouble separating; you are not expected to leave the room.  The purpose of the visit is for us to meet your child and to get  to know your family a bit more and to allow for further observation of your child’s learning style.  We do not require a child visit for children applying to our 2s program.

As mentioned above, West Village Nursery School is a member of ISAAGNY and follows the association’s guidelines for notification dates.

The regular notification for admission to WVNS is Wednesday, March 1, 2018. Parents must reply with their decision by no later than noon on Friday, March 9, 2018.

Early Notification Program

Early Notification is an optional program and is available for siblings of current or former WVNS students. The opportunity to apply for early notification will be sent to siblings’ families in the first week of December 2017. Parents will be notified by December 15, 2017 and must reply with their decision by no later than noon on Friday, January 26, 2018.

How do I receive an application from WVNS? When is the application deadline?

The application for the 2018-2019 school year is available on our website . The  application deadline is  November 1, 2017. After that date families may contact the admissions office to inquire if there are any openings.

How does the lottery work?

We are seeking balanced classes in terms of gender, age, and birth date, so these factors guide our lottery process.

Does WVNS have a wait list? How does the wait list work?

Students who have been waitlisted at WVNS can remain on the waiting list until the 2018-2019 school year begins, as long as the family has not signed a contract with another ISAAGNY school. If a space becomes available during this period of time, the Admissions Office will contact you directly.

What is the size of the enrollment at WVNS?

There are 15 children in our 2s class – one group of 7 and one group of 8

There are 30 children in our nursery school program of  3-5 year olds  – 2 groups of 15 children each

What are the program hours?

The 2s class is conducted in two groups, either Monday & Wednesday from 1:00pm to 2:30pm or Tuesday & Thursday from 1-2:30pm.

The 3 year olds are in school from 9am to 12pm.

The 4 year olds are in school from 9am -2pm M-TH and dismiss at noon on Friday.

How do parents participate in the cooperative?

Parents in the 3s and 4s classes work alongside the teachers as Parent Helpers. There are typically two Parent Helpers each day that class is in session, and each family sends a Parent Helper to class about every other week.

In addition to helping in the classroom, in accordance with WVNS by-laws, every family serves on at least one school committee—including Fundraising, House, Library, Merchandise, Neighborhood Action, and Technology—unless already an elected Officer of the Board. This shared responsibility for the school’s administration, facility and events reinforces our cooperative nature while reducing tuition expense and strengthening our sense of community.

Please see The Cooperative Nursery School Experience for additional details about our unique approach.

WVNS admits students of any race, color and national or ethnic origin.  We seek a diverse population in our school community and actively encourage applications from families of all backgrounds. Every kind of family constellation is welcomed and treated with respect. Financial aid is available for eligible families. Owned and run by its membership, WVNS is committed to offering high-quality, low-tuition preschool education to the children of the neighboring community.
